Possibly the flattest ride out of Essex, with only 2,500m of climbing concentrated in the first and last 50km, The Flatlands 600 is a perennial favourite. It's looking likely that this will be a well-populated ride this year.

The last Essex foray of the old calendar, fingers crossed for a last glimmer of summer weather. This is a lovely route through north Essex, south Cambridgeshire and west Suffolk. To commemorate our friend Richard Ellis' life, tragically cut short; Richard's family have manned some of the controls for the last six or seven years and will be at Maglia Rosso again this year.

"Our by now traditional ACME Betweenmas 100km permanent will be on Saturday 28th December; keep the following day free if you can so there's another option in case of foul weather.

Updated to add: "[we'll ride this in] reverse on an early start: elevenses/second breakfast at Wally's, Acton; then lunch in Saffron Walden; Paradise café for tea and cake/pudding, or pick a pub in Great Dunmow."
